Celebrate National Farmers' Market Week!

U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack has declared August 2nd – August 8th 2009 to be the 10th annual National Farmers’ Market Week. During National Farmers’ Market Week, we invite you to join us in celebrating the healthy food, economic value, and community importance of Vermont’s markets.

Buy It, Cook It, Film It: the Farmers' Market Film Challenge

***Attention aspiring film makers and farmers' market foodies: the deadline for entries in our Buy It, Cook It, Film It contest has been extended!***

Entries must are now due by August 12th at 5 pm. Please email jean@nofavt.org if you would like more information on rules and posting.

Judging will take place over the next week, and contestants will be notified of the results on Friday, August 21st.

The contest info:

In celebration of National Farmers' Market Week, we're asking you to film yourself shopping at a Vermont farmers' market, cooking the produce with one of your favorite recipes, and eating your dish.  The emphasis for this film is on creativity; both in the overall concept of the film and also in the use of local food to make an amazing meal. The three segments of the film (buying, cooking, eating) need not be equal in length, but all must be represented over the length of the submission. Beyond that, we're open to anything. Film a music video, interview your farmer, host a cooking show-- anything that's entertaining and includes local food and your farmers' market is all right by us.

Film Contest Rules

Videos must be filmed at a Vermont farmers' market between August 2nd and August 8th. Entrants may submit as many videos as they would like, however, each must be filmed at a different market and include cooking a different dish. Contestants are only allowed to win once. The videos must be between one minute and seven minutes long. Videos must be uploaded to NOFA Vermont's channel on youtube (http://www.youtube.com/group/FMFilmChallenge) and will also be featured on NOFA Vermont's facebook page. All submissions must be uploaded by Wednesday, August 12th.

The videos wil be judged by NOFA Vermont Executive Director Enid Wonnacott and Vermont Secretary of Agriculture Roger Allbee based on four criteria: Adherence to the Contest Theme and Percentage of Ingredients Used That Are Local (0-30 points), Originality & Creativity (0-30 points), Entertainment Value (0-30 points), and Quality of Video Production (0-10 points).
