Each year, the NOFA-VT Winter Conference provides a valuable opportunity for farmers, homesteaders, gardeners, land managers, educators, students, producers, policy-makers, and other food-system activists to participate in our vibrant community event by sharing ideas, resources, and skills. It is a time to celebrate, gather, and connect over the winter.

Goals of the Conference:
Our conference aims to create a space for gathering, learning, and sharing of information on all aspects of local, organic food production, marketing, and consumption.
Topics and Themes:
Topics and issues relevant to food and farming systems, skills and knowledge sharing, and policy and advocacy for systems change are all welcome. We are particularly interested in workshop topics that focus on mitigating against the harmful effects of our changing climate, that repair harms that have been committed due to the historic and widespread systemic racism embedded in our food system, that are innovative and will encourage others to adopt new and more promising practices, and that will lead to broader community resilience through enhanced food security (see more info), community-based solutions, and connectivity. The suggested topics below apply in the broadest sense. Additional topics will be considered.
- Technical commercial organic vegetable, fruit, herb, flower, dairy & livestock production (beginner-advanced)
- Direct marketing strategies and best practices: CSA, farmstands, farmers market vending, etc.
- Procurement and infrastructure: distribution, processing, storage, food safety, and cooperative models
- Education: farm-based education, experiential education, school gardens
- Agri-business, agritourism marketing, technology, and business planning
- Food security and access
- Homesteading and gardening (beginner-advanced)
- Health, wellness, cooking, and nutrition
- Alternative energy, climate change, and resiliency
- Policy, activism, and community engagement
We generally organize workshops into themed tracks at the conference. They vary year to year, but these were last year's. Please consider which track your workshop might best fit into.

During the online submission process, you will be asked to provide the following information: (1) presenter names and contact information; (2) short bios (50 words or less) for each presenter; (3) proposed title of your workshop; (4) workshop description (60-75 words); (5) format of presentation; (6) intended audience; and (7) promotional photo.
Workshops may have 1-2 presenters or a panel of 3-4 people (max 4).
Please consider your format; interactive audience engagement (discussion, Q&A, hands-on) is usually the most popular.
Please note: if you are submitting more than one workshop, please fill out one form per workshop. You may submit as many proposals as you like.
Submission of a proposal is not a guarantee of its acceptance. All proposals will be reviewed by a committee.
We are grateful for your time and expertise. All presenters receive complimentary conference registration. When submitting your proposal, please choose from these additional compensation options:
1. Presenter stipend at $100 per presenter for 75 minute conference workshops or $150 per presenter for 2 hour on-farm workshop (1-2 people presentations)*
2. Panelist stipend of $50 per presenter (3-4 people presentations)*
3. A one-year NOFA-VT membership
4. Donate your stipend to NOFA-VT
*It is our policy that BIPOC presenters will receive an additional $50 stipend.
