Come join us at burke hill farm for the fall harvest season, private room and farm fresh food provided plus a stipend dependent on experience and desired workload.
This is a 30 acre homestead scale farm and forest, the focus here is on learning historical agricultural methods of the area and providing food for the household which is comprised of roommates who share the farm.
The fall tasks include veggie harvest and canning, root cellaring, caring for pigs and chickens, harvesting and threshing dry beans by flail, harvesting 8row flint corn, hand harvesting and retting a substantial quantity of flax for fiber, stacking pre-cut wood, and seeding winter wheat and rye. There is also some traditional woodworking going to learn on if that's of interest, we are reproducing some flax processing equipment and hewing some new sills for a local building.
We need help now through september. We are also looking for another roommate/farmsharer so there is an opportunity to stay if you really like what we're doing here. The other roommates are male and 26 and 36 respectively.
it's an idyllic and secluded setting but biking distance to south royalton and plenty of amenities, good swimming etc. There are trails right out the door for trail running or biking as well.
we only really need one helper at a time but if it seems like folks want to come for shorter stays we can have several people over the month instead of one with some overlap if needed.
Please reach out with any questions!
