Head Over Fields (HOF) is a certified organic farm and market located on busy Rt. 7 in Charlotte, Vermont. We are entering our 4th growing season, cultivating 5+ acres of vegetables, flowers and herbs with 2 high tunnels, a caterpillar tunnel and a greenhouse. HOF distributes primarily direct to consumers through our robust roadside farm stand (open seasonally April-November) as well as a 3-season CSA and the Shelburne Farmers Market. We also distribute wholesale and work closely with local restaurants and institutions. Our small but mighty team is passionate about organic farming practices and values being part of an agricultural community.

 

We are looking for an outgoing and community-oriented individual to join our retail management team! The Farm Stand Manager will oversee the day-to-day operations of our retail farm stand, working closely with Owner/Farmer, Katie Rose and our incredible partners to create a one-stop-shopping experience for our CSA members and customers. 

 

*The farm stand is the beating heart of our farm, where our community can access fresh, organic produce alongside a variety of local and Vermont-made provisions, including meats, cheeses, ice cream and more. The season kicks-off mid-April as spring greens and roots become available and our Annual Plant Sale begins. By Memorial Day, we are open 5 days/week (Wednesday-Sunday) and remain open through Thanksgiving.*

 

This is a seasonal, full-time position (35-40 hours/week) from April - December 2023.  This person will report directly to the Farm Owner, Katie Rose. The ideal candidate will have the following experience and skills, however we are willing to train the right person!

 

  • Interest in and commitment to Vermont agriculture and artisanal Vermont products
  • Familiarity with seasonal produce and strong interest in expanding knowledge of food and food products
  • Superb customer service
  • Excellent communication skills, ability to work with a wide range of vendors and distributors
  • Experience in retail, including use of a Point of Sale (POS) system (such as Square, Shopify, Clover, Toast or similar system) and merchandising (building displays, creating signage, etc.)
  • Strong physical and mental work ethic, self-awareness and sense of pace
  • Creative problem-solving skills and strong ability to multitask
  • Independent-worker with the maturity and drive to identify and solve challenges
  • Organized with the ability to maintain clean workspaces

 

Responsibilities include

  • Managing our retail farm stand
  • Customer service
  • Purchasing including product selection, stocking and inventory management
  • Receiving: ensuring invoices match the items received and vendors are paid in a timely manner
  • Merchandising, including creation of signage, building displays and marketing materials 
  • Regular meetings with Farm Owner, Katie Rose
  • Post-harvest processing, such as bagging greens, cleaning onions or garlic, filling pints/quarts for retail sale
  • Restocking the retail floor and refrigeration units
  • Ensuring produce for sale is of the highest quality and is visibly appealing
  • Managing spoils
  • Opening and closing the retail farm stand
  • Maintaining an accurate weekly timesheet

 

Compensation:

$18+/hour DOE
