Karme Choling Garden Manager
Manager position starts in March/April 2024
Overview:
Karme Choling is a Buddhist meditation center founded by Chogyam Trungpa in 1970
We are situated on 420 acres of beautiful land.
Our one acre garden has been managed organically for 35 years and produces a wide variety of vegetables, flowers, herbs, shiitake mushrooms and berries.
Most produce is used at the meditation center but some produce is sold via a CSA, a local meal site and food coop.
Job description: Garden manager
The garden manager will work in close cooperation with the senior garden manager who can provide management assistance if needed.
Garden manager will be responsible for day to day operation including:
seeding and transplanting
soil prep (we have a BCS tractor with power harrow plus many hand tools)
irrigation and weed management
organic pest management
harvest and distribution of produce
communication with our kitchen chef
composting and cover cropping for general soil fertility
managing two greenhouses
work with other Karme Choling departments and staff
create an atmosphere of kindness and invitation in the garden

Good communicator
Flexible with work hours (30 hours per week in the garden plus staff rota)
Ability to inspire garden team
