Join UVM Grazing Specialist Amber Reed for a walk through her pastures. We will look at historically plowed fields that have been converted to pasture, her water storage and pumping system, fencing, and animal housing. Your questions will help guide the discussion.

We will explore Amber's innovative approaches to:

  • Field Conversion - Tilled Land, Old Hay Field, Overgrazed/Undermanaged Pasture
  • Solar Grazing
  • Bale Grazing
  • Parasite Prevention for small ruminants
  • Watering Systems
  • Animal Handling Systems
  • Retrofitted Pack Barn
  • Predator Prevention

Amber has spent the last 15 years managing and working for diversified pastured livestock, dairy, and cheesemaking operations in New England and Colorado. Amber and her husband Chris own Maplemont Farm in Barnet and have a flock of 75 sheep and a guard donkey.

If you are looking for fresh ideas to solve some common New England grazing farm issues, come walk the pastures at Maplemont and be a part of the lively discussion.

The event is free for VGFA members and $15 for non-members.  Registration is required, it will help us gauge the crowd size.  We will gather no matter the weather, so please dress appropriately.
