Why are you seeking an apprenticeship or work opportunity on an organic farm in Vermont?
I'm a third year Food Systems major at the University of Vermont. I have experience working on a large conventional vegetable farm, but would like to learn about animal agriculture at this point in my education. I learn best hands on, so learning through experience is the most beneficial for me. My schooling and work experience has mostly focused on vegetable production, so I would like to fill in the gap about animal agriculture that is missing in my formal education.

Physical Labor
I am very used to physical labor at this point. Working on the Hort Farm came with lifting 40 lb apple crates with no problem. I have also done all tasks associated with vegetable farming, and like the feeling of being physically exhausted at the end of the day.

Name an experience that changed the course of your life
Working on the vegetable farm deeply influenced my love of farming. I am required to perform six credits worth of internships over the course of my college career, and I got my first farming job so that I would have experience and be more competitive in internships. I realized how rewarding farming is, and have focused my whole education around it since then.

What do you hope to take away from an experience working on an organic farm?
I would like to learn the differences between conventional and organic farming. I am neutral about both, and think that both methods of farming have a place in our food system. I would also like to learn more about operating tractors and farm equipment.
Education
Currently working on my B.S. in Food Systems with a concentration in Ecological Agriculture, and minors in Soil Science and Animal Agriculture
