ACTION ALERT: Contact your Senator(s) and ask them to fund the Farm Security Fund!

March 27, 2026

Yesterday, Governor Scott signed S.60, the Farm & Forestry Operations Security Special Fund, into law!

This is a huge victory and an essential step in ensuring our farmers have the support they need when extreme weather hits.

While this is an exciting and important milestone, the work is not yet done: we must urge the legislature to appropriate funding in the upcoming state budget to make this program a reality. Without funding, the Agency of Agriculture, Food & Markets is not obligated to operate the Farm Security Fund and will not be able to distribute payments to farmers.

Please write to your Senator(s) TODAY and ask them to include an appropriation for the Farm Security Fund in the FY27 state budget!

We've provided a letter template, and it's also always helpful to share a personal note highlighting why you think it is important to adequately fund the FFSSF.

Farmers everywhere are experiencing the impacts of climate change directly, but here in Vermont, we are making sure they don’t shoulder the burden alone. Once passed and funded, the Farm & Forestry Operations Security Special Fund (S.60) will ensure farmers and loggers have the financial support they need to recover from extreme weather. It means supporting rural livelihoods, protecting the health of our land, preserving the heart of our communities, and ensuring strong local economies.

Thank you for taking action!
