Job Description:
Schedule: 1-3 days a week, 6-8 hours per day
Seasonal- between about April - November, but can be flexible
Pay: $20/hr + farm products
 
About our farm:
  • Regenerative agriculture practices with a heavy focus on environmental conservation
  • We will be milking 5-6 Jersey cows, we are raising 5-10 beef yearlings/calves a year; we have about 40-60 sheep total a year, and we will be milking 18-24 of those sheep and raising some lambs for meat. We also have a horse & a donkey.
  • We rotationally graze ~30 acres of pasture
  • Hillside property with a few hundred feet of elevation change from the barn to the upper pastures
  • We make cheese usually 3-4 days a week, field work is usually 2-3 days a week, and 1-2 farmers market days per week
  • Work is mainly with 1 of the farm owners, who manages the farm. The other co-owner works full-time off the farm, but may be onsite occasionally weekly.

Work Description:

  • Assisting with moving and setting fencing for livestock rotational grazing
  • Filling and moving troughs for water, minerals, feed, supplements, etc.
  • Supporting pasture management activities such as brush clearing, removing undesirable plant species, mowing, repairing fencing, etc.
  • Assisting with livestock handling and health checks, help with administering medications or vaccines as needed
  • If interested, opportunity to help with milking, creamery, and cheese care, but not required.
  • Other farm activities as interest and time allow.
Preferred experience:
  • Some livestock handling, even if not specifically with cows and sheep
  • Some exposure to portable electric fencing
  • Comfort with driving an ATV/UTV
  • Tractor experience is a plus

Working requirements/conditions:

  • Outdoor work in all weather conditions
  • Exposure to biting insects and ticks
  • Ability to walk/hike on hilly and uneven terrain
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs (bags of feed, minerals)
  • Comfort with and desire to handle livestock
  • Interest in regenerative/sustainable agriculture practices
