ISO farmsitter for our farm in Corinth, VT to cover us while we go away for some events this summer. The tasks will be:
- daily morning milking of 20 sheep plus clean-up from milking (once per day milking, starting before 9)
- moving fence and water for those sheep daily
- checking in on the other groups of sheep daily (2 other groups – rams and lambs/yearlings)
- feeding, watering, and mucking horses daily
- checking on, feeding, and watering pigs as needed (they are pretty self-sufficient and have auto-food and waterers)
- taking care of our very sweet dog Maggie (a walk a day, breakfast, and dinner)
- generally making sure that things are okay with the house
Because of the training involved with milking, we’re looking for someone who can come during the July dates to learn milking and chores from Eva and then who can cover the August dates themselves. The November dates are also solo but are easier as we will have stopped milking at this point so having the same person cover August and November is not needed (but might be nice for everyone).
Compensation we’re offering is $100/day. We also have a cozy and spacious house with a hot tub, lots of woods to walk in, and a sweet swimming pond.
Someone with experience milking and caring for livestock would be ideal.
Training/getting comfortable:
- 1 paid training day that we can decide on together between now and August 6th
- During July 29-30 the primary farmer, Dani, will be away and Eva will be covering milking and chores – if the person who is taking this on is local to the area, they could come for one of these days as an additional paid training/getting comfortable day
Farm Sitting Dates:
- August 7-10 (the main event)
- November 7-9 (just chores - these dates won’t involve milking)
If you’re coming from a distance, you could come from August 6-10th, the training day would be the 6th, and then we would leave on the 7th. Same for the November dates though training is much less intensive for these dates and if the same person is covering both periods, another training day won’t be necessary.
