About New Village Farm
New Village Farm is a diverse educational farm in Shelburne, Vermont. Our raw milk cow and goat dairies, poultry operation, gardens, and wilderness areas provide an immersive outdoor classroom where people of all ages participate in the rhythms of farm life.
We create opportunities for youth to build meaningful relationships with the land, animals, one another, and themselves through hands-on, farm-based learning. Our programs—including Farm School, Summer Camp, After School, and seasonal offerings—are rooted in regenerative agriculture, nature connection, and restorative practices.
Position Overview
The Farm Education Director leads New Village Farm's educational programs, ensuring children and families experience welcoming, meaningful, and engaging farm-based learning.
This role oversees program quality, curriculum, staff leadership, family communication, and day-to-day operations while helping educational experiences stay grounded in the rhythms of the farm and our mission.
Responsibilities
Program Leadership
- Provide vision, leadership, and oversight in our Farm School, Summer Camp, After School, and seasonal youth programs.
- Strengthen existing programs and develop curriculum centered on farm work, animal care, gardening, nature connection, seasonal rhythms, and restorative practices.
- Collaborate with farm leadership to integrate education with daily farm operations.
- Organize events and celebrations for families and broader community
Children, Families & Staff
- Serve as the primary contact for families regarding child development, behavior support, accommodations, and program communication.
- Build strong relationships with children and families that foster belonging.
- Recruit, train, mentor, and support educators, interns, and seasonal staff.
- Lead staff meetings and professional development in farm-based education, child development, restorative practices, and risk management.
Administration & Operations
- Manage registration, enrollment, schedules, curriculum resources, and program materials.
- Maintain safe, organized, and welcoming educational spaces.
- Collaborate with farm leadership on program planning and organizational priorities.
- Manage online presence of programming and education: newsletter, website, social media.
Qualifications
Required
- Experience working with children in educational or outdoor settings.
- Knowledge of child development.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
- Experience mentoring staff or leading teams.
- Familiarity with restorative approaches and collaborative problem-solving.
- Flexibility and ability to adapt in a dynamic environment.
- Aptitude and enthusiasm for supporting families and building community.
