Maple Syrup & Regenerative Agriculture – Southern Vermont

Are you excited about farming in beautiful southern Vermont? Do you want to help build a diversified, revenue-producing farm centered around maple syrup production, regenerative agriculture, and thoughtful land stewardship?

Lily Farms is seeking a passionate, skilled, and highly motivated farm team member to help expand our maple syrup enterprise while contributing to the broader development of a resilient and diversified working farm.

This position will work closely alongside our existing farm operations team and offers the opportunity to help shape the long-term growth of the farm through practical farming experience, operational leadership, and collaborative problem-solving.

We are intentionally building a team with complementary strengths across maple production, diversified agriculture, infrastructure development, equipment operations, forestry, and livestock management. About the Farm

Maple Syrup Production

  • 35-acre sugarbush currently supporting approximately 500 taps, with long-term expansion potential to 3,000+ taps
  • Refurbished 16' x 24' sugarhouse with equipment ready for immediate production
  • Maple syrup production is the core enterprise of the farm and will continue expanding incrementally each season
  • Strong interest in candidates who are excited about helping grow a long-term maple business

Existing Infrastructure

  • 15 fenced acres
  • Heated and conditioned 30' x 50' barn/garage with bathroom
  • Established orchard with approximately 80 fruit trees and berry plantings
  • 100' x 100' production garden

Diversified Agriculture

  • 275 acres with agroforestry and silvopasture opportunities
  • Orchard and berry management
  • Log-grown shiitake mushroom cultivation
  • Livestock including sheep, goats, alpacas, and chickens

Forestry & Wood Production

  • Sustainable forestry management
  • Firewood processing and milling using a Wood-Mizer sawmill
  • Brush chipping, trail maintenance, and reforestation work

Ongoing Projects

  • High-performance winter greenhouse with earth battery system
  • Root cellar
  • Chicken coop and livestock infrastructure
  • Equipment canopy and additional farm buildings
  • Dark sky camp site development
  • Sculpture trail – take part in a long-term ongoing art project

Responsibilities

  • Maple syrup production including tapping, sap collection, boiling, filtering, packaging, and system expansion
  • Garden, orchard, and crop management
  • Livestock care and pasture management
  • Equipment and vehicle maintenance and repair
  • Forestry and wood production activities
  • Property maintenance including trails, access roads, snow removal, and seasonal infrastructure work
  • Participate in planning and implementation of new agricultural initiatives and revenue opportunities

Desired Skills & Experience

  • Maple syrup production experience strongly preferred
  • Diversified farming or regenerative agriculture experience
  • Food processing, storage, or preservation experience is a plus
  • Strong organizational and communication skills appreciated
  • Experience operating tractors, skid steers, or farm equipment
  • Chainsaw operation and maintenance
  • Mechanical aptitude and equipment maintenance skills
  • Welding, fabrication, carpentry, or construction experience

Compensation

Compensation is flexible and negotiable based on experience, responsibilities, and long-term fit. We are open to a variety of arrangements, including performance incentives, revenue sharing, or expanded operational responsibilities for the right candidate.
