Stone's Throw Farmstead grows diversified organic vegetables and cut flowers on a 3/4 acre in Vermont's Green Mountains in the sweet little town on Shrewsbury. We serve our community through the Rutland & Ludlow Farmers Market, our seasonal farmstand, a flower CSA program, the VFFC Farmacy Program and other wholesale accounts. While we focus on quick, high-profit greens and roots, we also grow cut flowers and a variety of other fun vegetables. We value producing high quality, nutritious, and inspiring food for our community in ways that leave this land better than we found it.
We are proud to be a tractor-free, human-powered, and human-body friendly farm. We celebrate the skills, care, and grit it takes to grow good food and our successes along the way.
While we are still a young farm (2026 will be our fourth growing season), we are eager to build up from our team and expand our productivity this year. We work closely with each other and strive to have fun while we learn and grow (professionally, personally, and something delicious).
This season we're hiring one to two folks with prior farm experience to work at least 30 hours per week. Additional part time positions are also available for 16-24 hours per week. Both positions would feature a regular schedule of dynamic work including field work, harvesting, processing, and greenhouse work for both veggies and flowers.
Please visit our website for greater detail on the work available. If you have a particular interest or skill set, please let us know when applying. We're happy to shape a position thats a good fit for your interests, skillset, and schedule. Folks with prior farming experience are strongly preferred, but all interested applicants are encouraged to apply.
Generally, the positions start in May and finish at the end of October. Some earlier and later work opportunities may be available.
What we offer:
A respectful, supportive, & fun work environment
$16-20/hour depending on experience
Paid lunch break and mid-morning break
All the veggies you can smell and flowers you can eat
Once a month lunch prepared by us (and we're not half bad cooks!)
$50 gear stipend
Birthday treats (and random treats all season long)
Farmstand Discount
Flexible, accommodating schedule
Opportunities for personal learning & professional growth
Working here, you'll gain experience in the field, farmers market, greenhouse, and wash/pack room. Each week, you'll enjoy a regular schedule of dynamic responsibilities depending on the day of the week. Plug transplants into freshly prepared soil, trellis the tomatoes, or harvest baskets and baskets of fresh veggies and flowers for our weekend farmers markets. We strive to create a welcoming and joyful workplace for folks to enjoy farming and growing food for their community. All interested applicants are encouraged to apply even if you don't meet the outlined qualifications on the website.
Looking forward to working with you this season!
Cheers!
