Explore botanical illustration with Jeannie Marie Nicklas, a natural history educator and scientific illustrator with 30+ years’ experience. Blending science and art, she guides students in careful observation and drawing, sharing professional techniques shaped by decades of teaching, illustration, and outdoor work.

Jeannie Marie Nicklas has been a natural history educator/freelance scientific illustrator for over 30 years and began her career while studying for my M.S. in Forest Biology. Her love for both science and art has prompted her to teach natural history and illustration at summer camps, nature centers and in local schools. Over the years she has produced scientific, wildlife and botanical illustrations for various educational institutions, government agencies and environmental consulting firms. Some of her favorite projects involved creating the content and artwork for multiple interpretive trail sign systems in Vermont. Other artistic endeavors include ceramic mosaics and cedar garden art. She happily lives in Vermont where she also operates a landscaping business. When the snow is on the ground she can be found on the ski slopes, leading snowshoe tours or sledding down Lincoln Gap.
