Farmers are used to solving problems, and Vermonters are good at stepping up to help in hard times. But as climate emergencies continue, farms need reliable and sustainable state-based support to remain resilient. This session, our legislators can take an important step toward agricultural resilience by creating a climate impact recovery fund for farms. Land-based work like farming will be deeply impacted by a changing climate, and those impacts will have a ripple effect on food security for all Vermonters. We need to start planning now to ensure that farming remains a viable part of Vermont’s future.

Our legislators will need to feel support from all of us to make this happen. NOFA-VT is offering Community Action Workshops to support our communities in sharing our voices. Farmers, producers, and Vermonters who see the importance of supporting local farms and our thriving local food system are welcome to participate! We’ll create a shared understanding of the pivotal importance of farm security to Vermont, learn more about this emerging campaign to pass climate resilience legislation for our farms, and we’ll take action together.

More Details

Who these workshops are for: Farmers and all Vermonters who see the importance of supporting local farms and our thriving local food system.

What to expect: You'll hear from farmers in your community who are experiencing climate impacts firsthand, and have a chance to talk with your neighbors about why farms and farmers matter to Vermont. NOFA-VT staff and leaders will share information about the new legislative campaign to keep farms resilient in the face of our changing climate. Then, we'll take collective action and learn about key ways to build momentum using the tools we already have or can learn from one another.

Food: We’ll provide snacks and you’re welcome to bring more for yourself or to share.

Children: Children are welcome in the workshop. We’ll have some coloring books and puzzles if anyone wants a break from learning about the campaign.

Accessibility needs: Accessibility needs and requests? Drop us a note and let’s talk them through. We want everyone to have what they need to be able to participate!

RSVP to join us if you’re close by, and bring a friend! Or, drop us a note to help co-host a workshop in your area.
