Learn what a statewide land bank could do and how land banks bring abandoned properties back to life across the country. This will be an interactive webinar hosted by the Vermont Department of Housing & Community Development, with opportunities to ask questions and provide feedback.
The Department of Housing & Community Development (DHCD) will submit a report to the Vermont legislature on November 1, 2026, to help inform potential options for creating a statewide land bank. Land Banks can help communities unlock the potential of vacant and abandoned properties, provide technical assistance to move projects forward, and help communities meet their goals. Land banks can address all types of land, including residential, commercial, industrial, agricultural, recreational, and undeveloped land for conservation.
DHCD has been meeting with countless advocates, organizations, developers, and state agencies over the last two years to create a plan that would make a statewide land bank in Vermont community-driven and community-centered. We are launching this event as the first of several conversations with Vermonters to discuss the report's contents and gather feedback on potential options for creating a land bank.
