NESFI will host a workshop on tractor safety. The workshop will take place on
25 October 2025 from 10 to 2 pm with a 40-minute break for lunch and
conversation. Jim Carrabba, Agricultural Safety Specialist with the Northeast
Center for Occupational Health and Safety [NEC], will lead the session.
Participants will receive an hour of classroom instruction, followed by
demonstrations on tractor and PTO safety.
This workshop will cover the following areas:
- Tractor injury statistics
Basic Safe Tractor operating principles
Overturn prevention & importance of ROPS (Rollover Protective
Structures)
The ROPS Retrofit Rebate Program will be covered
explaining how this program works
This training will cover the areas required for OSHA annual tractor
safety under 1928.51 Appendix A and can meet that training
requirement for your farm (applies to farms with more than 10
employees)
- PTO (Power-Take-Off) safety and Retrofit PTO shields offered by the Northeast Center will be
demonstrated - Safe Operation of tractors on public roads
- How to perform operator checks
- Safety features on new vs. old tractors
