Local grain enthusiasts in VT are invited to join NOFA-VT for a two-part immersive workshop series on Vermont’s emerging grains and flour value chain.
(Note, this workshop and the farm tour at Granite Grains are intended as a series, but it’s not required to attend both. Todd Hardie and Tyler Murray will be at both workshops, so if you can only attend one, you’ll still have an opportunity to meet them both.)
On Friday, June 5th, we’ll meet Todd Hardie at the brand new Champlain Valley Grain Center, the purpose of which is to expand the grain growing and milling possibilities in Vermont by centralizing grain cleaning, storage, milling, marketing, sales, and distribution in one conveniently-located center in the Champlain Valley.
The center is equipped with VT-made New American Stone Mills to mill on-site, as well as an on-site bakery where fresh bread will be for sale. The Grain Center intends to work with grain farmers across the state, including Granite Grains. We will be able to follow those VT-grown grains from farm to mill to flour to bread, and hear their plans for wholesale grain and flour sales for institutions like K-12 schools.
This field trip is great for those interested in grain farming and increasing access to local grains in area schools.
This course is eligible for 2 hours of USDA professional development credit for topic areas 1130 and 1320.
Workshop Agenda:
12:30-1:30 pm: arrival at the center, BYO lunch (snacks provided)
1:30-3:00 pm: center tour
3:00-3:30 pm: wrap up circle & final Q&A
