Overview:
Karme Choling is a Buddhist meditation center founded by Chogyam Trungpa in 1970
We are situated on 420 acres of beautiful land.
Our one acre garden has been managed organically for 35 years and produces a wide variety of vegetables, flowers, herbs, shiitake mushrooms and berries.
Most produce is used at the meditation center but some produce is sold via a CSA, a local meal site and food coop.
Job description: Garden manager
The garden manager will work in close cooperation with the senior garden manager who can provide management assistance if needed.
Garden manager will be responsible for day to day operation including:
seeding and transplanting
soil prep (we have a BCS tractor with power harrow plus many hand tools)
irrigation and weed management
organic pest management
harvest and distribution of produce
communication with our kitchen chef
composting and cover cropping for general soil fertility
managing two greenhouses
work with other Karme Choling departments and staff
create an atmosphere of kindness and invitation in the garden

Flexible with work hours (30 hours per week in the garden plus staff rota)
Ability to inspire garden team

We are currently seeking one more full time and part time employee to round out our team for the 2024 growing season. The ideal candidate is someone with a passion for flowers, farming, values hard work, is self directed, comfortable working both as a team and independently, and is capable of working in all weather conditions outside.We strive to create a work culture that is respectful and kind, fun and focused and full of clear expectations.
When: April-November
Full time position: 35-40hrs/week
Part time position: 20-25hrs/week
Qualifications for this job:
-Have a drivers license
-Able to lift 50lbs
-Experience working on a production farm prefered

This job will include task such as:
-Harvesting
-Seeding
-Weeding
-Bouquet making
-Transplanting
-Digging and Planting bulbs and tubers
-Mowing and weed whacking
-Operating some equipment
-Making deliveries
-Contributing to our weekly newsletter and social posts
Hourly wage starts at $18/hr-$20/hr depending on experience with a pay raise mid season and bonus at the end of the season. Higher compensation is possible for someone with 3+ years flower farming experience, management capabilities and ability to harvest flowers efficiently and perceptively.
On farm housing is an option and available to rent starting in April.

This position incorporates all aspects of the farming operation including wash/pack, seeding, field work, greenhouse work and administrative work.. This is a great opportunity for anyone looking to learn or commit to something longer term as a career position.

The Teen Farm Fellowship Lead is part of the Vegetable Production Department and the Education Department at Cedar Circle Farm Education Center, working closely with the Vegetable Production Manager, the Education Programs Manager, and broader CCFEC staff. The Teen Farm Fellowship Lead supports Cedar Circle’s farm operations by coordinating and training a team of students to accomplish farm tasks with a primary focus on planning, performing and overseeing: the washing and packing of produce; high tunnel and greenhouse production; field management; planting and harvesting; and cut flower garden maintenance in an educational environment.
The position plays a role in identifying and coordinating daily and weekly farm priorities for the Teen Farm Fellows and collaborating with the Vegetable Production and Annual and Perennial leadership team. The Teen Farm Fellowship Lead supports Cedar Circle’s education programming by planning and delivering agricultural literacy lessons, both in the classroom and in the field, as well as coordinating service learning projects off site for additional learning opportunities and skills development.
