My wife and I are looking for land with housing to rent (and possibly purchase) to start a farm and education center. Our dream ever since we got married in Arlington 30 years ago was to return to Vermont to start a small farm and live a life more connected with nature. I am a self employed designer and my wife is a teacher. I have worked in greenhouses, on flower farms and on my grandparent’s farm since I was a kid. We’ve always had a garden wherever we lived. We have a passion for growing food and feeding people. We created and funded an organic school garden that we ran for 10 years at the school where my wife worked as the librarian. We wish to combine my passion for growing and her passion for literacy and nature to create a resource for the community.
We sold our home in CT last November and are currently renting in Windsor County. We are hoping to find farmable land with housing that is available immediately so we can start building our dream and get our hands in the soil.
Please contact me if you have something available or if you would like more information about us.
Thank you!
Champlain Valley Hops is seeking hard working individuals to join our spring farm crew! Our spring season runs from mid April to late June. Spring crew members will be given the opportunity to return for hop harvest, which runs from mid August to late September.
Spring activities consist primarily of “stringing” and “training”. Every season, new strings are hung from the top of our 18 ft trellis across the 30 acres that we have in production. Hops are perennial plants and the season's newly emerging bines are then hand trained to grow up those strings. Like most farm work, these tasks are repetitive and physically demanding but rewarding for the right individuals that enjoy physical activity and the great outdoors.
Ideal candidates are available full time, M-F, 8~5 from mid April through late June. Spring crew members will be invited to return to work for hop harvest from mid August through late September. Candidates seeking part-time work will be considered on a case by case basis.
