Yorlis Gabriel Luna, of the Asociacíon de Trabajadores del Campo (ATC in Nicaragua), the Latin American Institute of Agroecology Ixem Ulew, and La Via Campesina, will lead us in taking a closer look at the agroecology and food sovereignty movement in Nicaragua, discuss the role of peasant revolutionary thought in Latin America, solidarity and trans-nationalism, and how it all applies to the Vermont context.

In this workshop you will be instructed by local artist and wreath-maker Elise Clearly on how to twist and shape the vines into a 10" wreath which will support other natural materials woven into it. The queer botany series invites LGBTQIA+ folks and allies to explore the plant world through a queer lens and inspires to bring this knowledge into their own botanizing and gardening practices. We will learn some basic botany and explore our relationship with plants. The classes are interactive and designed for experienced gardeners and budding plant nerds alike. We'll investigate the medicinal benefits of vinegar, how it's been used traditionally, and what kinds of delicious brews we can make by infusing our vinegar with herbs and fruits from the garden. Whether you're looking to make a tasty "mocktail" or a nonalcoholic way to take herbal medicine, this class will answer your questions and send you home with your own delicious herbal vinegar! Together with Red Wagon founder Julie Rubaud, participants will make Herbes Salées, a traditional Quebecois way to preserve herbs, herb butters and herb salts. We will include information on drying and freezing herbs as well. Students will leave with lots of new recipes and preparations for their kitchen. Registration required.

Use your garden-grown medicinal herbs to make potent, useful alcohol-based tinctures that are affordable and easy to take, and easily adapted into sweet and tasty cordial recipes.
