Community Harvest at Knoll Farm

NOFA-VT members in the Mad River Valley and beyond: a local farm needs your help to stock local food shelves!

At NOFA-VT, we envision a Vermont where farms and agriculturally-rooted communities thrive together—nourishing the earth and one another. Part of realizing that vision means showing up for one another when abundance arrives faster than hands can keep up. It’s in those moments that mutual aid becomes a powerful act of food sovereignty and an exercise in community care.

Biodynamic Training Q+A Session

Hi NOFA Farmers,

It's great to meet you - we are Wasted* - a Williston based company rethinking sanitation by turning human urine into safe and all-natural fertilizer. We do our work in Vermont because this brave little state understands that cleaned urine is safe to use as an agricultural input - a strategy farmers have used for millennium.

🧡 Our mission: close the nutrient loop by capturing nitrogen and phosphorus before they pollute our waterways, and returning them to local soil where they belong.

♻️ We are growing a network of farm and retail partners committed to sustainability and circular resource use, and we’d love to work together.

🧑‍🌾 We are in the process of pursuing OMRI listing - i.e. becoming a registered input for organic farmers!

🌎 If you believe in creating local alternatives to energy-intensive and extractive fertilizers, and keeping nutrients out of watersheds and recycling them for agricultural use, here’s how you can champion this work:

✍️ Sign a short, non-binding statement of interest to grow confidence with our regulators and investors by demonstrating demand for an organic (OMRI listed), regenerative (recycled), and regionally sourced (local) fertilizer.

To partner with us, please fill out our quick farm partner form and we’ll be in touch with next steps 🌱 Please fill this out by September 1, 2025.

Thanks,

Rachel Binstock, Wasted* Chief of Staff

This could be a great fit for someone who is semi-retired, starting a small farm, or seeking a slower, rural lifestyle connected to the land. We’re looking for someone who sees the magic in our special property and is excited to be part of its care and improvement over time. Tractor experience and comfort working independently are important, and some background in land or animal care is ideal.

We rotationally graze our small herd of cows and are focused on improving the health of the land through thoughtful stewardship. If you value regenerative practices or organic principles, even better — we’d love to connect with someone who shares that mindset.

This is a part-time paid role with the option to exchange work hours for on-site housing. We’re open to conversations about land use for your own farm or homestead venture — including forestland, pasture, or garden space — whether you're looking to grow food, raise animals, or start a small CSA or market project.

Caretaking responsibilities include:

  • Mowing lawns and maintaining trails during spring, summer, and fall

  • Shoveling walkways in winter (driveway is professionally plowed)

  • Feeding round bales to cows in winter (some tractor use required)

  • Helping care for our rotationally grazed cows (currently 5)

  • Light property upkeep and seasonal farm projects as needed

Time commitment:

  • Spring–Fall: approx. 10–20 hours/week depending on needs

  • Winter: approx. 5–10 hours/week

Housing option:

  • A comfortable 2-bedroom, 2-bathroom home on the property

  • Available in exchange for part-time work

  • Includes water, trash removal, and internet

  • Some infrastructure available (tractor, barns, RTV, portable fencing, water access)

We’re open to creative arrangements and would love to find someone who brings ideas and energy to the land. If this sounds like a fit, please reach out and tell us a bit about your background and what you’re hoping to find in your next chapter.
